Two different questions hide in this one: how long per charge, and how long before the pack wears out. Per charge, expect 15–30 minutes on most toy-grade cars. Over its life, a lithium pack gives 300–500 charges — two to four years of normal play.
| Car | Pack | Continuous driving | Stop-start play |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1:64 mini RC | 3.7V 100–200 mAh | 8–12 min | 15–20 min |
| 1:16 drift / racing | 3.7V 500–800 mAh | 12–18 min | 20–30 min |
| 1:16 4WD drift | 7.4V 800–1000 mAh | 15–20 min | 25–35 min |
| 1:12 off-road truck | 7.4V 1200–1500 mAh | 15–25 min | 30–40 min |
| Stunt / twist car | 3.7V 500 mAh | 15–20 min | 25–30 min |
Stop-start play — a child driving, stopping, picking the car up — roughly doubles the continuous figure, which is why parents often see longer times than the box promises.
Lithium packs deliver full voltage for the first two-thirds of a charge, then taper. The last few minutes are slower and steering gets lazy. That is normal, not a fault. Stop and recharge at that point rather than running the pack flat — deep discharges shorten its life.
A decent toy-grade lithium pack gives 300–500 full cycles before dropping to about 70% of its original run time. At one charge a day that is a year; at two or three a week it is three years. NiMH packs manage similar counts; AA cells are single-use.
Bigger cars have bigger packs but heavier bodies; the ratio is what matters. Among the 171 RC cars at cartoys.pk, 1:16 drift cars with 7.4V packs and the stunt cars give the best minutes-per-charge. The battery guide explains how to read the mAh figure on any product page.
15–30 minutes of continuous driving for most toy-grade RC cars, and up to 40 minutes of normal stop-start play. Mini 1:64 cars run 8–12 minutes.
A lithium pack gives roughly 300–500 full charges before run time drops noticeably. That is two to four years for a car used a few times a week.
Usually one of: driving on carpet or grass, a pack that was never fully charged, an old pack past its cycle life, or a swollen pack. Try a full charge on tile first; if run time is still under 5 minutes, replace the pack.
