Diecast Scale Guide — 1:18, 1:24, 1:32 and 1:64 Explained

A diecast scale is simply how many times smaller the model is than the real vehicle. 1:24 means 24 times smaller — a 5-metre car becomes about 21 cm. Here is every common scale, what it measures, and what it suits.

ScaleModel lengthBest for
1:1824–28 cmThe largest common collector scale. Heaviest metal bodies, most opening parts, best detail. Display piece rather than a play toy.
1:2220–22 cmSlightly smaller than 1:18 but still large enough for opening doors, working lights and engine sound.
1:2419–21 cmThe most popular collector scale worldwide. Good balance of detail and shelf space, and the widest model choice.
1:2815–17 cmA compact collector scale, common in display-box multipacks.
1:3214–15 cmSmall enough for children to handle, big enough for opening doors and pull-back motors. The best value scale.
1:3611–13 cmPocket size with pull-back action. Common in gift sets.
1:646–8 cmHot Wheels and Matchbox size. Fits standard orange track and sold in multipacks.
1:725–6 cmSmallest common scale, usually sold in large collection trays.

What does diecast mean?

Diecast means the body is made by forcing molten metal — usually a zinc alloy known as Zamak — into a steel mould under pressure. The result is heavier, more rigid and more finely detailed than injection-moulded plastic, which is why collectors prefer it. In Pakistan the term is written as one word, 'diecast', more often than 'die-cast'.

What does 1:24 scale mean?

It means the model is 24 times smaller than the real vehicle in every dimension. A 5-metre car becomes about 21 cm long. 1:18 is larger at roughly 25 cm, 1:32 smaller at about 15 cm, and 1:64 — Hot Wheels size — around 7 cm.

Which diecast scale is best to collect?

1:24 is the most widely collected because it balances detail against shelf space and has the largest model choice. 1:18 gives the most detail and opening parts but each car needs roughly three times the display space. 1:64 is best if you want many cars cheaply or want them to run on Hot Wheels track.

Do diecast model cars have opening doors?

Most 1:18, 1:22, 1:24 and 1:32 models do — typically both front doors, and often the bonnet and boot as well, with a detailed engine and interior underneath. Models at 1:36 and smaller usually have a sealed body. Every product page on cartoys.pk lists which parts open.

Are diecast cars suitable for children?

Larger scales from 1:32 upward are sturdy and safe for children aged 3 and up, though the metal body is heavy enough to hurt if thrown. Small 1:64 cars sold in multipacks are the better choice for younger children who want to play rather than display.
